RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Electrical safety at home

Many house buyers don’t know that their surveys don’t include the electrical safety of the property. If you’re already a homeowner, it’s a good idea to have your property’s electrics tested at least every 10 years. Landlords must have their rental properties inspected at least once every five years.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need electrical testing?

Electrical testing confirms the safety and reliability of electrical installations in residential properties. It provides an important check on the condition of circuit breakers, wiring systems, and electrical installations. Identifying potential problems and risks allows you to address them before they cause wider damage or accidents.

How often is electrical testing needed?

Residential electrical testing isn’t a requirement unless there are ‘notifiable’ changes to the installation. However, testing is advisable if you have experienced power outages or surges that could have caused damage. Overall, the answer depends on how you use your property. The Big Green Electrical team can assess your needs and provide you with specific advice.

Who can carry out electrical inspections and tests?

Inspection and testing are important for the safety of your customers, employees and visitors. That’s why you should only work with qualified and accredited electricians.

What is an EICR?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report or EICR provides information about the safety and quality of your electrical installations. It includes the condition of cables and wires and can identify potential risks and hazards. A qualified electrician uses specialised equipment and testing techniques to conduct a thorough inspection.
