Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the most suitable lighting?

First, consider what type of lighting you need. For example, bright, focused light is good for kitchens, while warm-toned dimmable lights are good for living rooms. Choose light fittings to suit the property and check they will fit in the available spaces. For kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor lighting, make sure your light fittings have suitable ingress protection to the level of IP44.

Do I need a professional electrician to install lighting?

You can do simple things like changing lightbulbs or replacing existing ceiling-mounted fittings. Be sure to turn off the electricity to your lighting circuit if you’re replacing fittings. Anything more complex is best done by a qualified professional, especially in kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors.

What should I do about flickering lights?

Flickering lights are unpleasant but can indicate there’s a significant electrical problem. Check light bulbs and connections aren’t loose, and that the switch isn’t faulty. If these steps don’t solve the problem, it’s best to call a professional electrician to check for other faults.

What are the benefits of LED lighting?

LEDs use less energy than traditional bulbs, so you can reduce your lighting costs. They also last much longer, so they require less maintenance, and you’ll need fewer replacements. Modern LED lights offer a wide range of colours and intensities, so you can create exactly the right effects. They are also dimmable, providing more flexibility.

How much does LED lighting cost to run?

LED lights cost less to run. They require far less power to produce the same level of illumination, resulting in lower electricity bills. Over time upgrading to LEDs reduces your lighting costs. Our return on investment or ROI calculation will show you how quickly they will pay for themselves.

Are there any disadvantages to LED lighting?

LEDs do cost more but are more efficient and reliable. Older LEDs tended to provide a colder blue light, but they are now available in many different tones. Existing fixtures and dimmers might not work well with LEDs, but compatible alternatives are available.
