MyEnergi zappi installations in Surrey and Hampshire

Four MyEnergi zappi installations in Weybridge, Basingstoke and Redhill, featuring tethered and untethered chargers, dedicated supplies and Harvi wireless monitoring.

Residential EV charging

Home charging designed around your property

Home charging should fit around your property and your daily routine. At Big Green Electrical, we install MyEnergi zappi chargers for homeowners and property developers, planning each installation around the electrical supply, parking position and cable route. Here are four of our installations, showing different ways to make home EV charging work.

Weybridge and Basingstoke

Weybridge: convenient charging and everyday control

Weybridge: convenient charging and everyday control

For this Weybridge property, we mounted a black zappi on the brickwork beside the driveway, keeping the charger within easy reach of the parking area. The tethered lead stays attached to the charger, ready to plug into the vehicle. With a suitable internet connection and MyEnergi app setup, owners can check charging progress and manage charging from their phone, alongside the controls on the unit.

Dedicated EV consumer unit in its external enclosure, linked to the service box by galvanised trunking.

A dedicated supply for the EV charger

At the same property, we installed a new consumer unit inside a dedicated external enclosure. Galvanised trunking runs from the main incoming supply in the outside service box to this enclosure. Planning the supply and protective equipment is as important as choosing the charger: we select the circuit protection to suit the installation and the manufacturer’s instructions, then test and certify our work.

Basingstoke: charging around your electricity tariff

This black tethered zappi installation in Basingstoke illustrates the convenience of keeping the charging lead stored around the unit. Scheduled charging allows owners on a suitable tariff to take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity. Zappi also offers FAST, ECO and ECO+ charging modes: FAST charges at the maximum rate permitted by the vehicle and installation, while the ECO modes offer ways to use surplus generation where solar is installed. Solar panels are optional — zappi also works as a home charger using grid electricity.

Wireless monitoring and charger options

Weybridge: wireless monitoring with Harvi

Untethered zappi with a rotary isolator, installed for a property developer in Redhill.

Redhill: an untethered option for a property developer

For this property developer in Redhill, we installed a black untethered zappi with an adjacent rotary isolator to the developer’s specification. The socketed design lets the owner connect a separate charging lead when needed and remove it for storage afterwards. It provides a choice for customers who prefer a charger without a permanently attached lead, while the local isolator provides a convenient point for isolating its supply.

White tethered zappi installed with Harvi at a separate Weybridge property.

Weybridge: wireless monitoring with Harvi

At this separate Weybridge property, we fitted a white zappi together with a MyEnergi Harvi. Harvi sends readings from current transformer sensors to the MyEnergi system by radio, avoiding a separate monitoring cable between the incoming supply and charger. This gives more flexibility over charger positioning and can reduce disruption where a data cable would be difficult to route. The charger still needs its electrical power cable, and a reliable radio connection must be confirmed.

What else can Harvi monitor?

Harvi is a compact energy harvesting sensor that needs no batteries or separate power supply. It connects to CT sensors and transmits their readings wirelessly. With the appropriate sensors, configuration and connected MyEnergi system, it can support visibility of grid import and export, solar generation and compatible AC coupled battery charging or discharging in the MyEnergi app.

This can be particularly useful when a charger is on a detached garage, subject to radio coverage. Battery monitoring depends on the system: where solar and batteries share a hybrid inverter, a CT on its AC output cannot separately identify the solar generation and battery discharge. We assess the arrangement before recommending the monitoring setup.

EV charging designed around your home

Whether you want a tethered or untethered charger, scheduled overnight charging or integration with solar and energy monitoring, Big Green Electrical can help you choose a suitable setup. We assess the supply, agree the charger position and cable route, and explain how to use the finished installation.
