Hypervolt EV Charger Installations: Home Charging That Fits Everyday Life

A selection of Big Green Electrical’s Hypervolt home charger installations, showing thoughtful positioning, tidy cable routes and practical features for everyday charging.

Residential EV charging

Home charging built around the homeowner

Buying an electric vehicle often brings practical questions: where will the charger go, how will the cable reach the car, and can charging be arranged around cheaper electricity?

Other homeowners want a charger that complements their property or can make use of surplus solar generation.

Big Green Electrical has installed Hypervolt chargers in a range of residential settings. These examples show how charger choice, positioning and cable routing come together to make home charging convenient.

A personal recommendation

A charger chosen for a family member

When a family member was buying a new BMW and needed a home charger, Dan recommended Hypervolt. Its distinctive appearance, straightforward app and tidy cable storage made it a good fit.

The charger was installed in a dark side passage, where its illuminated front makes it easier to locate at night. The charging cable wraps around the unit, with a separate holder for the connector.

The family member has been pleased with how easy it is to use—a practical example of the everyday details that matter once an installation is complete.

Planning for cheaper charging

For homeowners concerned about running costs, tariff compatibility is an important part of choosing a charger.

Compatible Hypervolt models can integrate with Intelligent Octopus Go, allowing Octopus to manage charging around its smart charging schedule. Eligibility depends on the equipment and tariff requirements.

For properties with solar panels, compatible Hypervolt equipment can also use surplus solar generation for vehicle charging. The right arrangement depends on the homeowner’s system and when the car is available to charge.

These are options we discuss when recommending a charger; they are not confirmed features in use at every installation pictured.

Examples of our installations

A tidy installation suited to the property

The photographs show installations on brickwork and painted masonry, with different cable routes to suit each location.

Where the layout allows, rear cable entry can keep the supply cable out of sight. The black Hypervolt pictured illustrates this approach, with no supply cable visible beneath the charger.

Elsewhere, surface-mounted cabling provides a practical route. We consider the charger position, parking arrangement and cable storage together, so the finished installation works for everyday use.

Monitoring household demand and solar export

Hypervolt’s supplied CT clamp measures electricity flow at the property’s incoming supply. This allows the charger to monitor household demand and detect surplus solar electricity being exported to the grid.

With a compatible solar installation and the appropriate charging mode selected, that information can help the charger use surplus generation to charge the vehicle.

Managing charging around the home’s supply

On models with an internal automatic load management dial, we configure an appropriate limit for the property’s electrical supply, taking account of the verified incoming fuse rating and the installation. The selected limit may be lower than the fuse rating.

Using the CT readings, the charger can reduce or pause vehicle charging when household demand rises, then increase charging again as demand falls. This helps avoid the EV charger overloading the supply while other appliances are in use.

Useful features for everyday charging

Hypervolt’s illuminated lightning-bolt design gives it a recognisable appearance. Adjustable lighting adds a personal touch, while the cable storage and separate connector holder help keep the charging area organised.

For some homeowners, appearance is a deciding factor. For others, app control, tariff compatibility or solar charging matters more. Our recommendation starts with what the customer needs.

Choosing the right home charging arrangement

These installations demonstrate that the same charger can suit very different properties. The important part is selecting a suitable location and planning the electrical supply and cable route around the home.
